- Strategies and Strive Asset Management stock rose following analyst coverage and Bitcoin‘s rally to $70,000.
- B. Riley analyst Fedor Shabalin called the firms’ ‘Digital Credit’ dividend yields “meaningfully superior to most traditional yield-oriented alternatives.”
- The model’s success depends on Bitcoin’s gains exceeding the cost of the dividends paid to investors.
Stocks for Strategy (MSTR) and Strive Asset Management (ASST) climbed in late trading on Monday after B. Riley Securities initiated coverage with a ‘Buy’ rating. This move coincided with Bitcoin’s price surging 3.6% to cross the $70,000 threshold, data shows retail sentiment remained bullish.
MSTR’s stock gained as much as 1.55% after hours, while ASST’s stock rose 1.29% in overnight trade. Consequently, retail sentiment for both companies trended positively on platforms like Stocktwits, according to reports.
In a note to investors, B. Riley analyst Fedor Shabalin said the firms’ approach is compelling. He wrote, “We believe the dividend yields offered by MSTR’s and ASST’s preferred instruments (currently 8.0%-12.5%) are meaningfully superior to most traditional yield-oriented alternatives.”
However, Shabalin identified a key risk for the strategy. The only risk is that Bitcoin’s gains need to remain higher than the cost of the dividends Strategy is paying investors.
The firms use preferred stock like SATA and STRC to fund Bitcoin purchases while paying fixed dividends. This strategy allows them to acquire more Bitcoin without diluting their common stock.
Strategy is the largest corporate Bitcoin holder with 738,731 BTC, while ASST holds roughly 13,131 BTC. B. Riley put a $175 price target on MSTR, implying nearly 26% upside from Monday’s close.
