- Hedera‘s Hiero Swift SDK now officially supports Swift 6.0, 6.1, and 6.2 as of version v0.47.0, released February 2, 2026.
- Limited support for Swift 5.x will continue until August 3, 2026, after which it will be completely dropped in favor of Swift 6.0 as the minimum.
- This upgrade aligns with apple‘s mandate that apps submitted to App Store Connect must be built with Xcode 16 or later by April 24, 2025.
- The move prepares the SDK for future enhancements leveraging Swift 6’s improved concurrency model and safety features.
The Hedera network has announced a major technical upgrade for its developer toolkit, officially bringing its Hiero Swift SDK into the modern era. This transition, detailed in a recent blog post, sees official support for Swift 6.x versions starting with SDK release v0.47.0 on February 2, 2026. Consequently, this keeps the platform aligned with current Apple developer requirements.
However, the change includes a critical sunset period for the older Swift 5.x toolchain. Meanwhile, teams already building on Swift 6.x require no immediate action for this compatibility-focused release. The SDK’s upgrade is an investment in safety and long-term alignment with modern Swift tooling.
Consequently, the shift sets Hedera up for future work that can leverage Swift 6’s stronger concurrency model. This includes features like sendable annotations and compiler checks for race conditions. The official support table clarifies that Swift 5.6 remains the minimum supported version until August 3, 2026.
After that date, the minimum version required by the Hiero Swift SDK will be Swift 6.0. Therefore, developers currently using the SDK on Swift 5.x must plan their upgrade accordingly. For guidance, developers can reach out on Hedera‘s Discord or other official community channels.
