The Hedera Council has officially welcomed the Global Blockchain Business Council (GBBC) as its first Strategic Partner. This partnership marks a new phase in expanding global involvement within the Hedera ecosystem. The announcement highlights a shared commitment to developing trusted, real-world solutions in web3 technology.
GBBC, founded in 2017 in Davos, is a leading nonprofit association representing over 500 institutional members and hundreds of ambassadors across 124 countries. Its mission is to promote responsible blockchain adoption by connecting business leaders, regulators, and innovators to create a more secure and functional digital economy.
Shyam Nagarajan, Chief Partnerships Officer at Hashgraph, stated, “GBBC has built one of the most respected global networks for blockchain policy and standards. As our first Strategic Partner, they strengthen the Council’s ability to engage governments, enterprises, and industry bodies worldwide. This helps the Hedera ecosystem grow in a way that is trusted, responsible, and built for the long haul.”
GBBC’s contributions include expertise in global policy and regulatory affairs, which helps align government and enterprise priorities. They lead standards initiatives such as the Global Standards Mapping Initiative (GSMI), InterWork Alliance (IWA), and BITA Standards Council (BITA), fostering interoperability and best practices in the blockchain industry. Additionally, GBBC hosts major events like Blockchain Central to facilitate dialogue between industry and government officials.
Prior to this formalization, Hedera and GBBC collaborated on the “Sips and Standards” event at the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery, which gathered leaders to discuss responsible web3 adoption. Sandra Ro, CEO of GBBC, commented, “GBBC and Hedera Council share common values that meaningful adoption requires trusted standards and coordinated public-private collaboration. By aligning our efforts across sectors, we continue to support responsible innovation and scaling of blockchain infrastructure. GBBC is honored to join the Strategic Partner Program, helping to forge the next era of growth across the Hedera ecosystem.”
The Strategic Partner category was created by the Hedera Council to increase participation from global organizations. Adding GBBC as the first partner enables new opportunities to co-develop solutions, drive adoption, and enhance engagement following shared values. The Council plans to collaborate with GBBC on future initiatives, including events like America 250 in 2026, to advance trusted digital economy infrastructure.
