Tether and Lugano Honor Bitcoin Creator with Distinctive Statue
Tether, the world’s largest stablecoin issuer, has collaborated with Swiss authorities to create a statue honoring Satoshi Nakamoto, Bitcoin’s mysterious creator. The statue was presented during the third annual Plan ₿ forum in Lugano.
According to a press release by Tether, the statue represents both the innovation and enigmatic nature of Bitcoin’s creator.
Innovative Design Captures Nakamoto’s Mystique
Artist Valentina Picozzi created the statue with a unique perspective-dependent design. When viewed from the sides, it shows a complete figure working on a laptop. However, the image gradually fades as viewers move to the front or back, symbolizing Nakamoto’s disappearance after establishing the foundation for decentralized finance.
“This artwork serves as a reminder of the enduring influence of Satoshi’s vision, inspiring US to continue pushing the boundaries of innovation and financial freedom,” stated Paolo Ardoino, Tether CEO.
Lugano’s Cryptocurrency Leadership
The Swiss city of Lugano has demonstrated significant progress in cryptocurrency adoption since launching the Plan ₿ initiative with Tether two years ago. The city recognizes Bitcoin (BTC), Tether (USDT), and its local LVGA stablecoin as legal tender for public services and tax payments.
“Lugano is rapidly becoming a leading hub for digital innovation,” said Michele Foletti, Mayor of Lugano. “We are proud to host the Plan ₿ Forum and to support the growth of blockchain technology and digital assets.”
Advanced Payment Infrastructure
In a significant technological advancement, Lugano implemented a new payment system in December 2023. This system enables residents to process payments by scanning QR codes through their preferred mobile cryptocurrency wallets.
The city continues to strengthen its position as a cryptocurrency hub through its annual Plan ₿ forum, which brings together blockchain industry leaders, government officials, and Bitcoin enthusiasts to discuss developments in cryptocurrencies and decentralized finance.
The Satoshi Nakamoto statue, now standing in front of Villa Ciani, serves as a permanent reminder of the revolutionary impact of blockchain technology and cryptocurrency on the global financial system, while maintaining the mystery of its creator’s identity.
