Theta Labs has expanded its academic network, announcing a new partnership with the recently merged City St George’s, University of London. Consequently, Lecturer Dr. Ferheen Ayaz will utilize Theta EdgeCloud’s decentralized GPU infrastructure for her research into edge AI security and energy-efficient systems.
This addition marks Theta Labs’ 34th academic partner, building on its growing UK and European presence that includes Imperial College London. The network globally spans institutions like Stanford University and Peking University, as detailed in the announcement on Medium. Dr. Ayaz’s research sits at the intersection of security, distributed systems, and energy efficiency.
Her previous work includes the EPSRC-funded Green, Connected and Prosperous Britain project, developing energy-efficient EV charging solutions. She also contributed to the PETRAS-funded MAISE project, focusing on multimodal AI-based security for intelligent IoT devices. “Exploring Theta EdgeCloud allows us to consider how distributed AI may support academic research across these areas,” said Dr. Ayaz.
“Theta EdgeCloud is designed to support academic research by providing flexible access to decentralized and hybrid GPU infrastructure,” said Mitch Liu, CEO of Theta Labs. He noted Dr. Ayaz’s focus on security, edge systems, and sustainability aligns with the platform’s intended workloads.
