- China has approved flight operations for two flying taxi manufacturers, GOVY and eVTOL, to develop small helicopters capable of flying between 100 and 300 meters in altitude.
- Test flights are set to begin in 2025, with commercial production targeted for 2027.
- The first batch of flying taxis will be delivered to Russia and the UAE, with a UAE-based company pre-ordering 350 units valued at $1 billion.
- The flying taxis can reach speeds up to 130 kilometers per hour and will feature two seats in a design similar to a small helicopter.
- The flying taxis are designated for commercial use, not general public use, according to GOVY’s founder Su Qingpeng.
China has authorized two flying taxi manufacturers, GOVY and eVTOL, to reassemble and operate a small helicopter capable of flying between 100 and 300 meters above ground. The companies are scheduled to begin pilot testing in Guangzhou in the second half of 2025 and plan to launch manufacturing by 2027.
According to company founder Su Qingpeng, the government granted official flight authorization, clearing the way for production. A business based in the United Arab Emirates has already placed a pre-order for 350 of eVTOL‘s flying taxis, with the deal estimated at $1 billion.
Describing the product, GOVY noted that the flying taxi is a two-seater aircraft that can reach speeds of up to 130 kilometers per hour (about 80 mph), with a design closely resembling a small helicopter. “We will start pilot tests in Guangzhou in the second half of this year, in the best case,” Qingpeng said. The first models will be delivered to Russia and the UAE as part of the initial sales batch.
Qingpeng emphasized that these vehicles are intended for commercial operations only and not for broader public use. “As regards the wide application, we will start their operation next year and will begin using them for commercial purposes in 2027,” he added. Russia has been named as a priority sales market alongside the UAE.
The deployment of flying taxis is considered a move toward advanced urban mobility for the BRICS nations. If manufacturing and sales proceed on schedule, China and its BRICS partners could become early leaders in commercial airborne transportation.
No additional details about pricing for other markets or further expansion plans were provided.
