Binance Launches Ether Options for Passive Income Access

Binance Opens Ether Options Writing to All Users with Enhanced Platform Features and VIP Fee Discounts

  • Binance has opened ether options writing to all users, allowing them to earn income and manage risk.
  • The platform upgrade offers faster execution, more strike prices, and advanced market data for traders.
  • The move reflects growing demand from retail and institutional investors for crypto derivatives.
  • Binance is providing fee discounts to VIP users on multiple crypto options to boost liquidity.

Binance, the largest cryptocurrency exchange by trading volume, now enables all users to write (sell) ether options. This new feature allows traders to generate additional income and manage risk by taking options positions previously limited to professional users. The update was announced recently in a press release shared with CoinDesk.

Ether options give holders the right, but not the obligation, to buy or sell ether at a set price before a specific date. Sellers of these contracts receive an upfront premium, which serves as immediate income while carrying the obligation to fulfill the contract if exercised. This income strategy has been popular among advanced traders using platforms like Deribit.

To participate, Binance users must post margin as collateral and pass a suitability assessment to ensure responsible trading. In addition, the exchange is offering a 20% discount on both Taker and Maker fees for VIP users across new ETH, BTC, BNB, and SOL contract listings. This incentive aims to increase liquidity in its crypto options market.

The platform upgrade includes significant infrastructure improvements such as higher API throughput, lower latency, and faster order execution, especially during volatile market conditions. Traders now have access to a wider range of strike prices across multiple assets, allowing for more precise hedging and speculation. Advanced WebSocket streams have also been integrated to enhance market transparency and provide deep-tier data necessary for detailed analysis.

This expansion aligns with the increased interest from institutional investors, highlighted earlier this year when BlackRock’s IBIT options surpassed Deribit’s native Bitcoin options in trading volume. “Binance remains committed to delivering innovative tools that meet the evolving needs of our users,” said Jeff Li, VP of Product at Binance, emphasizing the benefits of faster execution and greater flexibility in the upgraded options platform.
