Sweden’s financial supervisory authority announced on Thursday that it has registered cryptocurrency exchange Binance as a financial institution in the country.
The registration allows Binance to launch a website in Swedish and otherwise advertise itself directly to consumers in the Scandinavian country, Per Nordkvist, deputy director of the Financial Supervisory Authority’s banking department, told Reuters.
Binance accounts for more than half of the global cryptocurrency trading market. With its registration in Sweden, it now counts regulatory licenses or approvals in 15 countries, including several European Union states, Australia and New Zealand.
