Starting Tuesday, Amazon‘s cloud unit AWS will begin making OpenAI‘s GPT models available to customers in preview, a major shift following Microsoft dropping its exclusive resale rights. “It’s something that our customers have asked for, for a really long time,” AWS CEO Matt Garman said in an interview with Bloomberg Television. Consequently, some of OpenAI’s latest models will be available for preview, with the most powerful versions arriving soon.
Meanwhile, Amazon unveiled proprietary AI agents for HR and supply chain management at its AWS event. The new Connect Talent software is designed to help firms find and screen workers for large-scale hiring needs. Colleen Aubrey, AWS SVP of applied AI, told Reuters that candidates will know they are being screened by AI, which is being refined to sound more human.
Furthermore, the two companies launched Amazon Bedrock Managed Agents, powered by OpenAI, for enterprise use. OpenAI stated these agents can maintain context and execute multi-step workflows across complex business processes. This partnership is underscored by Amazon’s $50 billion investment in OpenAI, its largest single-company investment.
However, AWS chief Garman noted that demand for AI services currently exceeds the supply of computing power. Retail sentiment on Amazon stock remained bullish ahead of quarterly earnings, with shares gaining 12.4% over the past year.
