- Cottle faces up to five years in prison over alleged involvement in the 2021 Texas Republican Party data breach.
- The ANON token has reached a market cap of approximately $8 million and generated over $59,000 in fees for Cottle since its launch.
- Supporters view the token as a continuation of the Anonymous movement and an effort to inspire a new wave of digital activists.
Aubrey Cottle, known online as Kirtaner, has launched a Solana Blockchain token named ANON in tribute to the Hacker group Anonymous, which he founded. The move comes as Cottle faces charges connected to a 2021 data breach involving the Republican Party of Texas, with potential prison time of up to five years.
The ANON token, created on Solana’s Bags launchpad, has gathered $8 million in market capitalization and earned Cottle more than $59,000 in fees since August 15. According to Cottle, proceeds are being used for his legal expenses and to create a reserve of tokens for prominent original members of Anonymous.
“I want every single one of us to make it, all of our old heroes,” Cottle told Decrypt. Part of his plan includes future initiatives, such as a scholarship fund for young hackers. He said, “Once it gets to a certain point, there are initiatives that I want to do. I want to create a scholarship fund for young, talented hackers.”
Anonymous is a decentralized international group known for DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attacks and other cyber activities targeting entities it accused of misconduct. High-profile incidents include actions against financial giants like VISA–Mastercard-operation-payback” target=”_blank”>Visa and MasterCard after the WikiLeaks controversy, and a cyber campaign against Russia following its 2022 invasion of Ukraine.
ANON’s community sees it not as a simple meme coin but as an extension of Anonymous ideals in blockchain form. Investors and supporters have adopted slogans linking both hacktivist and crypto cultures, and some position the token as an effort to support those previously involved in the movement.
Cottle stated that funding future projects, including scholarships and legal defense pools for hacktivists, would depend on the token’s further growth, targeting a $200 million market cap. He clarified, “I’m not setting up a radicalization school… This is an effort of pure goodwill and trying to lift other people up.”
