Amazon launches Alexa.com web AI chat with shopping, devices

Amazon launches Alexa.com — a browser chat interface for Alexa+ that supports shopping, smart‑home control, image generation and Ring feeds (Early Access)

  • Amazon launched a browser-based chat interface called Alexa.com for its Alexa+ assistant.
  • Early Access users can chat with Alexa+, generate images, upload documents, and view Ring camera feeds from the web.
  • The web interface supports shopping actions, cart management for Amazon Fresh and Whole Foods, reminders, and smart‑home controls across devices.
  • Amazon said it uses a “model-agnostic” approach and partnered with Anthropic (developer of Claude) to power Alexa+; the company also emphasized privacy controls.
  • Access is limited to Alexa+ Early Access users and no public rollout date was provided.

On Monday, Amazon announced the launch of Alexa.com, a browser-based chat interface that brings its Alexa+ assistant to the web, aiming to let users interact with Alexa from desktop browsers as well as Echo devices. The company described the move as a way to extend Alexa beyond speakers and phones and to offer a chatbot-style experience for shopping, task management, and smart‑home control via the web; see the official launch for details.

The early access product lets users type or speak to Alexa+, generate images from prompts, upload documents, set reminders, and manage household notifications. It also supports shopping workflows, including reviewing, updating, and completing purchases, and can handle orders from Amazon Fresh and Whole Foods while maintaining context across the Alexa app, Echo devices, and desktop browsers.

Users can control connected devices such as Ring cameras, lighting, and thermostats directly from the browser and can view camera feeds. Amazon said the interface carries conversational context across devices and integrates with tens of thousands of services and devices to provide broader functionality.

Last year Amazon began a limited preview of Alexa+ and partnered with Anthropic, the developer of Claude, to help power the generative AI features. Amazon said in a statement that “Alexa+ has evolved rapidly since it launched nine months ago… What we’ve learned is simple: customers want Alexa wherever they are.”

The company described its approach as “model-agnostic” and affirmed its privacy stance. An Amazon spokesperson said, “We design Alexa+ the same way we approach building any product—we aim to create something customers will love while also protecting their privacy and security. Customers can review their interactions, including shared attachments, voice recordings, and web activity, and use the Alexa Privacy dashboard to control their most important privacy settings.” Access to Alexa.com is currently limited to Alexa+ Early Access users, and no timetable for wider availability was given.
