Andreessen Horowitz rebranded its crypto fund as a16z Frontier, widening its mandate to cover AI, autonomous machines, and biology while continuing crypto investments. The fund is led by Chris Dixon alongside Marc Andreessen, Ben Horowitz, Eddy Lazzarin, and Guy Wuollet, with the firm calling the move “an expansion” rather than a retreat from digital assets.
Meanwhile, Bitcoin traded at $81,566, holding roughly even after yesterday’s selloff as oil climbed 2% to $101 per barrel. BTC ETFs recorded $635 million in net outflows in a significant reversal, while stock futures turned red with the Dow falling 0.6% and the Nasdaq down 0.1%.
Chris Dixon argued that blockchains have receded into the background of products shipped by Wall Street and fintech firms, pointing to Oculus, Skydio, and Zipline as models for long-horizon bets. He emphasized that crypto’s role includes enabling AI agents to pay each other, positioning the technology as infrastructure rather than a standalone category.
In Washington, Senator Richard Blumenthal opned an inquiry into Tether payments to Nxum Group, the consulting firm co-founded by Bo Hines. New York’s attorney general also sought $1.37 billion from NovaTech founders over an alleged crypto Ponzi scheme.
On the protocol side, Pump launched EVM limit orders in its app, while Decrypt announced onsite trading through a partnership with Jupiter. OpenSea introduced referral fees on its mobile app, offering users 25% of their referrals’ swap fees.
