- The West is actively attempting to undermine the growth and influence of the BRICS alliance on the global stage.
- BRICS has become a significant force and an integral part of the evolving world order, challenging traditional Western paradigms.
- The Western ‘with us or against us’ mindset is limiting and contributes to decisions aimed at weakening BRICS.
- Despite Western opposition, interest in joining BRICS remains strong among other countries.
- Some nations prioritize national interests by choosing closer ties with BRICS, rather than aligning with Western pressures.
Sergey Ryabkov, Russia’s BRICS Sherpa, stated that Western countries are making efforts to harm the BRICS alliance as it expands its influence globally. According to Ryabkov, Western opponents’ focus on BRICS reflects the bloc’s transformation into a real power. He emphasized that the group’s growth over the last three years has become a part of a new, changing world order.
Ryabkov explained that Western nations remain stuck in their own framework and fail to accept the success of BRICS. Unlike BRICS, which functions as a cooperative alliance, the West operates on a ‘with us or against us’ principle, which he described as a block mentality. This thinking drives Western politicians to view countries aligned with BRICS as opponents rather than partners.
“The logic of bloc thinking, which boils down to the formula: ‘Whoever is not with us is against us,’” Ryabkov said. He noted that this mentality is deeply embedded in western policy circles and influences decisions targeting BRICS. This includes suspicion and efforts to impede the alliance’s growth, especially toward countries seeking to join.
Despite hostility from Western nations, interest in cooperating within BRICS remains strong. Ryabkov remarked that politicians who prioritize their national interests over pleasing Western capitals make deliberate choices to deepen ties with the alliance.
“Self-respecting countries, politicians who prioritize their national interests over pleasing some guy in some capital, are making a conscious choice in favor of rapprochement,” Ryabkov summarized.
The growing interest in the alliance and Western resistance highlights the shifting dynamics in global diplomacy and alliances.
