Jason Zhao, co-founder of Story Protocol, announced he is stepping down from his full-time position after more than three years of leading the company. Zhao shared that he will continue to be engaged as a strategic advisor, while redirecting his primary focus toward a new Artificial Intelligence initiative called Poseidon.
According to Zhao, Poseidon will look to apply AI solutions across frontier industries, including science, biopharma, robotics, and space. In the announcement, Zhao noted, “Language generation is just the initial wave of a cascade of abundant intelligence across fields…that, if successful, will constitute a new Industrial Revolution.”
Founded in 2021, Story Protocol enables intellectual property owners to register and monetize their content directly using blockchain technology, making IP rights “programmable.” The project has secured more than $130 million from major investors like a16z.
The company’s leadership will now pass to co-founder SY Lee, who steps in as CEO. Andrea will serve as chief product officer and Sandeep as chief AI officer. Zhao emphasized that he will maintain a close relationship with Story Protocol through ongoing partnerships and investments, describing his tenure as “the most meaningful experience of my life.”
