Revolut, a European digital bank with cryptocurrency features, announced plans to invest over $1.1 billion in France while seeking approval for a French banking license. Company representatives shared the news at the Choose France summit, hosted by President Emmanuel Macron in Paris.
The London-based neobank said it will establish its new headquarters for European Union operations in Paris. Revolut aims to hire at least 200 people in France over the next three years.
A spokesperson confirmed that Revolut is in the process of submitting an application for a banking license to the French banking regulator, Prudential Supervision and Resolution Authority. Currently, Revolut has about 300 employees and five million customers in France, making it its largest market within the European Union. The firm reported a global workforce of 10,133 people as of December 31, 2024, according to Financial News.
Revolut reported revenue of $4 billion for 2024, as stated in its annual financial report. The neobank has more than 55 million customers around the world and recently reached a $45 billion valuation.
The company intends to reach 10 million French users by the end of next year and double that total by 2030. Its banking app offers loans, trading, and cryptocurrency services.
Beyond France, Revolut received its UK banking license in July 2024 and operates with a Lithuanian license for EU customers. Earlier this month, it was also granted a Prepaid Payment Instruments license from India’s central bank, enabling it to offer Forex cards and international remittance services in India. The firm continues to expand its regulatory approvals as it grows in new and existing markets.
