According to the statement, Day has worked in the crypto sector since 2011 and participated in several key initiatives such as the Hyperscale tests.
Hughes’ contributions included designing the Cerberus protocol and the Radix Engine, which are key to the Radix network’s operation. As highlighted in a Forbes profile, he was recognized for tackling complex problems in blockchain technology and for his unconventional approach.
The Radix team stated, “Dan’s passing is a huge loss, for all of us who worked alongside him, for the Radix community, and the broader decentralised technology space. His absence will be felt profoundly.” The statement further noted that Hughes recently stepped back into public leadership to guide Radix through its next development phase, including the Hyperscale test.
Radix confirmed that its network infrastructure and development roadmap remain in place, with the team expressing its commitment to continue building according to Hughes’ vision. They emphasized that the technical foundations created by Hughes are robust and support thousands of developers and users.
In the coming days, the Radix community is encouraged to share tributes and reflections through Radix’s Telegram and Discord channels, which will be moderated to maintain respectful communication. The team also announced a short period of reduced public engagement while they focus on operational stability following Hughes’ passing.
The Radix team asked the public to respect the privacy of Hughes’ family during this time and thanked him for his impact on the project and the wider decentralized technology space.
