Historic Gains for Crypto Advocates in U.S. Congress

The 2024 U.S. elections marked a significant shift in cryptocurrency’s political landscape, with pro-crypto candidates securing substantial victories across both chambers of Congress. According to Stand With Crypto results, 247 crypto-supporting candidates won House seats, while 113 opposing candidates secured positions.

In the Senate, the ratio favored crypto advocates with 15 pro-crypto senators elected compared to 10 opponents. This victory followed an unprecedented $238 million investment from the cryptocurrency sector to increase its political influence.

Major Senate Race Victories

A notable victory occurred in Ohio, where Republican Bernie Moreno defeated Democratic incumbent Sherrod Brown. The win was backed by Defend American Jobs, a pro-crypto super PAC that invested $40.1 million in Moreno’s campaign. The effort received additional support from industry leaders, including Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong and venture capitalists Marc Andreessen and Chris Dixon.

In Indiana, Republican Jim Banks claimed a Senate seat with $3 million in support from Defend American Jobs PAC. The same organization contributed $2 million to John Curtis’s successful campaign in Utah, where he replaced Mitt Romney.

Bipartisan Support for Digital Assets

Democratic Representatives Ritchie Torres and Dan Goldman maintained their positions with backing from Protect Progress PAC, receiving $110,148 and $150,853 respectively. This demonstrates the cross-party appeal of cryptocurrency advocacy.

In California, Democrat Adam Schiff, rated "A" by Stand With Crypto, won the Senate race against Republican Steve Garvey with over 5.1 million votes. Meanwhile, in Texas, Republican Ted Cruz, who advocates for making Texas a "crypto oasis," defeated Colin Allred by more than 900,000 votes.

State-Level Cryptocurrency Support

Texas displayed strong crypto support across multiple districts. Representatives Monica De La Cruz, Henry Cuellar, Julie Johnson, and Vicente Gonzalez, all marked as strong cryptocurrency supporters, won in their respective districts.

In Florida, Matt Gaetz, known for introducing legislation to allow Bitcoin tax payments, won Congressional District 1 by over 133,000 votes. Florida’s results showed 21 pro-crypto candidates projected to win, compared to six opponents.

This electoral outcome suggests a growing acceptance of cryptocurrency and blockchain technology in American politics, with support spanning both major parties and multiple regions. The substantial financial backing from crypto-focused PACs indicates the industry’s increasing political organization and influence in shaping future regulatory frameworks.
