OpenAI’s ChatGPT Health links records and wellness apps now!

OpenAI Enters Healthcare Market with Launch of ChatGPT Health

  • OpenAI launched ChatGPT Health on Wednesday to let users link medical records and wellness apps with ChatGPT.
  • Users can connect apps such as Apple Health, Function, and MyFitnessPal so ChatGPT can help interpret recent test results and track health patterns.
  • OpenAI collaborated with more than 260 physicians over two years to build the platform, which is intended to support—not replace—clinical care.
  • OpenAI is also exploring hardware, evaluating manufacturing for three AI device projects and hiring designer Jony Ive.
  • Other AI companies like NVIDIA and Google/DeepMind are expanding in healthcare with tools for imaging, protein modeling, and research support.

OpenAI on Wednesday introduced ChatGPT Health, a service that lets users link medical records and wellness apps so ChatGPT can offer tailored explanations of recent test results and care patterns. The company said the feature aims to help users better understand and manage their health while supporting clinicians. In a blogpost, OpenAI described how connections to apps could inform conversations with the model.

The platform supports secure connections to health and fitness apps, including Apple Health, Function, and MyFitnessPal, allowing ChatGPT to consider recent activity and records when answering questions. OpenAI said these integrations can help users interpret lab results and adjust routines based on personal patterns.

Development involved clinical input. Over two years, the company worked with more than 260 physicians to shape content and safety practices. OpenAI emphasized that ChatGPT Health is meant to aid understanding and management of health and wellness, not to replace clinician judgment.

Separately, OpenAI is exploring consumer devices. An Apple tipster known as Smart Pikachu reported the company is evaluating manufacturing for three AI device projects, one described as a “pen.” OpenAI has also hired designer Jony Ive and acquired his design startup to assist with device development.

The push into health reflects a broader industry trend. Nvidia offers high-performance computing and a biomedical toolkit called Clara for tasks such as imaging and molecular modeling. Google and DeepMind are working on machine learning applications for early cancer detection, drug development, and tools to help researchers analyze literature. Retail sentiment around OpenAI trended bearish on social platforms in the past 24 hours amid low message volumes, and the site included an option to Add us on Google.
