Medirom Healthcare Technologies Inc. announced a master service agreement to operate World ID “Proof of Human” verification locations across Japan, making the company a principal operator for the project. The deal, disclosed Friday, links Medirom to the World initiative co-created by Sam Altman and Alex Blania and involves deployment of Orb devices to confirm users are human without revealing personal identities.
Under the agreement, Medirom will run verification sites using World’s technology and hardware. The company plans to use its nationwide footprint of about 300 locations and add flagship and temporary pop-up sites in commercial and public spaces, backed by a new internal task force dedicated to the effort.

The company said the initiative is expected to generate revenue over time through operating fees and related services as adoption grows. The World project aims to address concerns that advances in AI make it harder to distinguish humans from bots by issuing anonymous World IDs that can be used across participating platforms. Tools for Humanity and the World Foundation led development of the system and identified Japan as a key market for expansion.
