Investigators reported that the man stayed in contact with an Iranian agent over several months. They state that, following the agent’s instructions, the suspect photographed the homes of Israeli public figures, documented military sites, and painted graffiti as part of his assignments.

During a search of his residence, police found computers and other digital devices they believe he used to communicate with contacts in Iran. The Tel Aviv Magistrate’s Court extended the suspect’s detention until June 26 as the investigation continues.

In a joint statement, the police and Shin Bet warned of continued efforts by Iranian intelligence and affiliated groups to recruit Israeli citizens for espionage. They noted that such recruitment often occurs through social media websites and asked citizens to report any suspicious outreach from foreign sources.

Security officials emphasized their intention to prosecute individuals involved in such activities. They said they would do so “with the utmost severity”.
