Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau stated that France will provide these individuals with prioritized access to emergency police resources, specialized security briefings from elite police units, and home security evaluations. Law enforcement officers will also receive more training to prevent the laundering of digital assets.

“These repeated kidnappings of professionals in the crypto sector will be fought with specific tools, both immediate and short-term, to prevent, dissuade and hinder in order to protect the industry,” Retailleau said, referencing the surge in attacks.

This week, four masked individuals reportedly attempted to kidnap the daughter and grandson of a crypto exchange CEO on the streets of Paris. According to Éric Larchevêque, co-founder of Ledger, there have been 50 attacks targeting cryptocurrency professionals in the last year, with 14 taking place in France. Larchevêque noted that his business partner was kidnapped and injured in France in January.

Recently, a leak of personal information from Coinbase user accounts led to concerns within the crypto community. Observers warned that criminals may use such data to identify and target investors for ransom, as highlighted on social media.
