- Figure Technology Solutions launched the On-Chain Public Equity Network (OPEN) to issue real equity on its Provenance blockchain.
- Shares issued on OPEN represent actual ownership and can be lent or pledged directly on-chain, bypassing traditional custodians, exchanges and brokers.
- The system enables investors to lend shares natively on-chain, which proponents say could speed settlement and boost transparency.
- Tokenized equities have grown, with about $1.2 billion in total value and roughly $800 million in monthly on-chain trading volumes, according to Token Terminal data and The Kobeissi Letter.
- Other firms entering the space include Backed Finance, Securitize, Coinbase and Ondo Finance.
A recent report says Figure Technology Solutions has launched the On-Chain Public Equity Network, or OPEN, to let companies issue real equity on the company’s Provenance blockchain. The network lets investors lend or pledge those shares directly on-chain without using traditional securities intermediaries. The aim is to streamline settlement and increase transparency around ownership and lending.
Equity on OPEN is described as representing actual ownership rather than synthetic tokens that mirror shares. The system lets investors lend shares natively on the blockchain instead of using conventional securities lending markets. Company leadership said OPEN removes the need for custodians, exchanges and brokers in those lending flows.
Interest is already emerging from issuers, including firms described as digital asset treasury companies, which have become more common and carry additional risks tied to volatile crypto prices. Supporters say OPEN could simplify the mechanics of stock lending and make lending activity more visible on-chain.
Figure completed a public listing on the Nasdaq in September, raising nearly $800 million in its IPO and now trading with market figures available in market data. Tokenized equities have attracted broader attention since 2025; some participants call the trend an “stablecoin moment,” and on-chain activity has grown alongside other tokenized real-world assets.
More firms are developing products for on-chain stocks, including Backed Finance and its xStocks suite, and initiatives from Securitize, Coinbase and Ondo Finance, indicating expanding industry interest in tokenized public equities.
