- Ethereum (ETH) reached a new 2025 high, rising 26% over the past week.
- U.S. investors are driving demand by buying Ethereum exchange-traded funds (ETFs), resulting in record net inflows.
- Major companies are adding ETH to their treasuries, following a model first seen with Bitcoin.
- ETH price remains about 22% below its all-time high from 2021.
- Stablecoin activity and recent legislation in the U.S. may contribute to ETH’s market momentum.
Ethereum’s price climbed to a 2025 high on Monday, boosted by increasing interest from institutional investors and greater adoption by various companies. The cryptocurrency, which is the second-largest by market capitalization, saw its value reach $3,848 before settling near $3,786, according to CoinGecko.
The price surge represents a 26% increase in the past week. Over the last day, Ethereum’s price rose roughly 1%. Though ETH last reached similar prices in December, it still trades about 22% below its previous record high of $4,878, set during the 2021 bull run.
Open interest in Ethereum derivatives hit more than $56 billion, according to CoinGlass. This figure shows how much money is currently invested in settled and unsettled futures contracts on Ethereum. ETF data provider records show that exchange-traded funds (ETFs) for Ethereum in the United States recently received over $726 million in net inflows during a single day, their highest-ever, following approval by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
Interest in Ethereum ETFs lagged behind Bitcoin ETFs after launch, but investors are now increasing their participation. Ethereum operates the blockchain that supports many decentralized apps, such as games and NFTs (unique digital collectibles), as well as stablecoin trading.
A new law signed by President Trump last week, called the GENIUS Act, could encourage more stablecoin issuers to operate in the market, which some analysts believe may add more demand for ETH. The public debut of USDC issuer Circle in May also led to higher confidence regarding stablecoins.
Other companies are adopting treasury strategies similar to those used by Strategy (previously MicroStrategy) with Bitcoin, but are now purchasing Ethereum instead. For example, BitMine Immersion acquired about $1 billion worth of ETH, and Nasdaq-listed SharpLink Gaming currently holds 280,706 ETH—around $1 billion—with both raising capital to expand their holdings.
Crypto treasury firms typically purchase digital assets expecting potential growth in their own share value and better investor returns.
