- Ki Young Ju says automated accounts tied to the keyword “crypto” surged, producing over 7.7 million posts in one day.
- The spike, a reported increase of more than 1,200%, has triggered algorithmic measures that reduce reach for genuine crypto accounts.
- X’s paid verification system is criticized for allowing bots to continue posting, while detection remains weak.
- Nikita Bier attributes some visibility losses to overposting by crypto accounts, citing low-value replies such as repeated “gm.”
- Users and platform staff disagree on whether suppression or user behavior is the primary driver of reduced reach.
Ki Young Ju, founder of CryptoQuant, posted on X on Sunday accusing the platform of suppressing crypto content instead of fixing automated spam, pointing to a sharp rise in posts tied to the word “crypto” in a single day in a post. He said the flood of low-quality automated content has led to algorithmic crackdowns that also affect legitimate crypto accounts.
Ju cited data showing more than 7.7 million posts in one day, an increase of over 1,200% compared with prior levels, and argued the platform cannot reliably tell bots from humans. He criticized the paid verification system for failing as a filter and allowing bots to “pay to spam,” and wrote “As AI advances, bots are inevitable.” He added that the platform’s response has punished real users, calling it “absurd that X would rather ban crypto than improve its bot detection.”
Nikita Bier, X’s head of product, responded that some visibility problems stem from user behavior, saying many accounts exhaust daily reach by posting or replying too often, often with low-value messages like repeated “gm”. She made this point in a post that revealed the platform’s view that overposting reduces the chance substantive content is seen later.
The discussion provoked debate among crypto users, with one account arguing the platform has suppressed crypto content despite the niche keeping traffic alive.
Crypto users continue to rely on X for real-time updates, and the platform has added features such as XChats, which leadership said would include “Bitcoin-style encryption”, audio and video calls, vanishing messages, file sharing and a Rust-based architecture.
