China executes 4 in Myanmar-based crime family crackdown

China executes four syndicate leaders in $4 billion pig butchering scam crackdown

  • Four leading members of the Bai family, a powerful Myanmar-based crime syndicate overseeing 41 “pig butchering” scam compounds, have been executed in China.
  • The syndicate was responsible for the deaths of six Chinese citizens and amassed profits exceeding $4 billion, according to China’s Supreme People’s Court.
  • Concurrent raids in Cambodia detained nearly 1,800 Chinese nationals among over 2,000 people at a suspected scam hub, signalling a regional crackdown on crypto-based fraud operations.

China executed four key members of the powerful Bai crime family in early 2026, marking another severe judicial response to Southeast Asia’s sprawling crypto scam industry. The executions targeted leaders of a syndicate that operated 41 fraudulent compounds and generated over $4 billion in illicit profits. Consequently, the patriarch of the family, Bai Suocheng, died of illness after his conviction, thus avoiding the death penalty his fellow members faced.

This action follows the execution of 11 members from the less powerful Ming family just a week prior. Meanwhile, regional crackdowns intensified as Cambodian authorities raided a major scam compound in Bavet, detaining thousands. Researchers, including Cambodia analyst Jacob Daniel, claim this high-profile raid prompted other compounds to evacuate their occupants preemptively.

For years, human trafficking rings have forced abducted victims into slave labor at these facilities. Victims are typically tortured and coerced into executing cryptocurrency investment scams known as “pig butchering” against international targets. The recent judicial and police actions represent a concerted, cross-border effort to dismantle these criminal enterprises, which prey on displaced and vulnerable populations across the region.
