In 2025, crypto activity in Brazil expanded significantly as the total transaction volume grew 43% year over year. The average investment per user on the platform of Mercado Bitcoin, the largest digital asset exchange in Latin America, climbed to approximately $1,000, reflecting increased investor engagement.
The market is evolving from speculation toward structured investment and portfolio management, demonstrated by 18% of investors spreading funds across multiple crypto assets. Bitcoin (BTC) continues as the most traded asset, followed by the stablecoin USDt (USDT), Ether (ETH), and Solana (SOL). Stablecoins gained traction as an entry point for both new and existing investors, with transactions tripling compared to the previous year, likely due to their lower volatility amid uncertain macroeconomic conditions, as stated in the report.
Lower-risk crypto products also showed strong growth. Digital fixed-income products, referred to locally as Renda Fixa Digital (RFD), saw their investment volume rise by 108%, with Mercado Bitcoin distributing about $325 million to investors in 2025. The investor base widened across age groups, with those aged 24 and under increasing participation by 56%, while high-net-worth and institutional investors also showed rising demand.
Regionally, the Southeast and South of Brazil, including São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, led transaction volumes. However, growth was noted across the Central-West and Northeast regions, signaling broader geographical adoption.
In a related development, Itaú Asset Management recommended Bitcoin allocations of 1% to 3% within portfolios, highlighting its distinct return profile and potential as a hedge against geopolitical and monetary risks, despite the asset’s price volatility throughout the year. Strategist Renato Eid characterized Bitcoin as a distinct asset with its own return profile and a potential hedging role due to its global and decentralized nature, as reported.
