Masked intruders targeted a high-ranking executive of Binance France in an early morning home invasion near Paris, leading to the arrest of three suspects after their initial attempt was foiled. The assailants, armed and hooded, first broke into a neighbor’s apartment around 7:00 am CET Thursday to demand the location of the Binance official’s home according to reports.
Officials from the exchange confirmed the incident to Cointelegraph but declined to identify the targeted employee. “We are aware of a home break-in involving one of our employees,” a Binance spokesperson stated, adding the company’s top priority is employee safety. Consequently, Binance is cooperating with an active police investigation and implementing enhanced security measures.
Authorities apprehended the three suspects hours later during a second attempted robbery in a different area. Local outlet RTL, citing anonymous police sources, reported that the stolen phones and a vehicle were recovered, linking the suspects definitively to the first crime. Meanwhile, Binance co-founder Yi He expressed gratitude for the swift response of French police on social media.
This attack follows another high-profile crypto-related abduction in France where six people were arrested just days prior. Physical “wrench attacks” targeting cryptocurrency holders, however, represent a growing global threat as documented by Cybersecurity firm CertiK. Data shows these attacks resulted in at least $40.9 million in confirmed losses globally last year, though the true figure is likely higher.
France recorded 19 such incidents in 2025, making it the country with the most attacks worldwide. Overall, Europe accounted for approximately 40% of all verified wrench attacks during that period.
