Federal Judge Maria Servini has requested banking information for Argentine President Javier Milei, his sister and Presidential Secretary Karina Milei, and three other associates as part of an investigation into alleged fraud, bribery, and abuse of authority related to the $LIBRA cryptocurrency. The probe focuses on financial activities following a public endorsement of the $LIBRA coin by President Milei in February, an action that led to its rapid collapse.
According to court documents, Judge Servini formally asked the Central Bank of Argentina to share records from financial institutions holding accounts for the Mileis and the three other individuals implicated. The request covers activity from 2023 to the present, aiming to clarify suspected irregular transactions linked to the cryptocurrency case.
This measure follows complaints from multiple parties after President Milei endorsed the $LIBRA coin online and encouraged people to invest, stating it would “help fund small businesses and start-ups.” Within hours, the coin’s value dropped sharply. The court has placed the investigation under judicial secrecy and assigned Federal Prosecutor Eduardo Taiano to lead the case.
Judge Servini has also frozen the assets of the three other main defendants: crypto entrepreneur Mauricio Novelli, ex-securities advisor Sergio Morales, and Tech Forum co-founder Manuel Terrones. The order extends to Novelli’s immediate family after bank surveillance footage showed his mother and sister possibly removing cash or valuables from safety deposit boxes just after the cryptocurrency launch. The footage from February 17, 2025, captures them arriving with empty bags and leaving with bags that appeared full. Subsequent court searches found the deposit boxes empty.
Prosecutors are investigating whether the surveillance evidence indicates an attempt to hide funds obtained through the cryptocurrency operation, which is being treated as suspected financial fraud.
In response to the scandal, opposition lawmakers have called for a parliamentary committee to intensively examine the $LIBRA matter. They have also filed official criminal complaints accusing President Milei, Karina Milei, and several officials of fraud, bribery, and abuse of authority.

The ongoing investigation continues under judicial secrecy, and further details are expected as court-ordered document reviews progress.
