- Apple is researching robotics technologies, including a tabletop robot with a swiveling screen that tracks user movement.
- Internal plans suggest possible product releases, including a home smart display in 2026 and a robotic device in 2027.
- Prototypes include a device known as the “Pixar Lamp,” featuring facial recognition and motorized movement for interactive responses.
- Apple has not commented publicly on robot development, and these products are not officially confirmed for market launch.
- The new devices could run on a software platform designed for voice commands and personalized functions.
Apple is developing new robotics concepts as part of its Artificial Intelligence strategy, according to a recent report. The company is working on prototypes that include a smart home display and a tabletop robot that can move and interact with users. These devices are being researched internally, but there is no guarantee they will become official products.
The tabletop robot, referred to as “J595,” could reach the market as early as 2027. It features a swiveling screen mounted on a robotic arm and uses facial recognition to respond to user movements. An earlier release could include a home display for automation and enhanced video calling in 2026. Both projects may use a new software platform, called “Charismatic,” focused on voice commands and personal user experience.
A source described the tabletop robot as the “Pixar Lamp,” referencing its expressive and lifelike movement. The device is designed to function as a personal smart assistant, capable of following users during video calls and physically reacting during conversations. Apple is also evaluating mobile robots with wheels and exploring the idea of humanoid robots for industrial applications.
Rumors about Apple entering the robotics space increased after recent AI product announcements. In February, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo stated that Apple is exploring both humanoid and non-humanoid robots for the smart home ecosystem, but these projects remain at the proof-of-concept stage.
At a company meeting, CEO Tim Cook encouraged employees to prioritize AI development, describing the product roadmap as “amazing.” He did not specifically mention robotics in his statements. The goal of these projects is to create artificial intelligence that users can interact with in a physical form.
AI expert Gary Marcus said to Decrypt: “I don’t personally think that reliable humanoid domestic robots are at all close to hand, but if I ever buy a humanoid for the home, I hope it will come with Apple’s care for privacy, reliability, elegance, security, and thoughtful design.”
Apple did not respond to requests for comment. Both the tabletop robot and home display projects are in early development stages, and it is unclear if or when they will be available to consumers.
