Anthropic launches Claude for Healthcare with record access.

Anthropic launches Claude for Healthcare, letting U.S. Claude Pro/Max users link health records for private summaries, explanations and insights.

  • Anthropic launched a Claude for Healthcare option allowing U.S. subscribers to share health records with the assistant.
  • Users on Claude Pro and Max can opt into data connections via HealthEx and Function, with Apple Health and Android Health Connect integrations arriving later this week.
  • When connected, Claude can summarize records, explain tests, detect patterns across metrics, and prepare questions for appointments.
  • Anthropic says the integrations are private by design, health data won’t be used to train models, and outputs for high-risk medical uses should be reviewed by qualified professionals.

On Jan. 12, 2026, Anthropic announced a new health feature set under Claude for Healthcare that lets U.S. subscribers of Claude Pro and Max give the assistant access to lab results and records. Users can enable access by connecting to HealthEx and Function, with Apple Health and Android Health Connect links rolling out later this week in its mobile apps.

According to Anthropic, the assistant will summarize medical history, explain test results, spot patterns in fitness and health metrics, and prepare questions for medical visits. "When connected, Claude can summarize users’ medical history, explain test results in plain language, detect patterns across fitness and health metrics, and prepare questions for appointments." "The aim is to make patients’ conversations with doctors more productive, and to help users stay well-informed about their health."

Anthropic said the integrations are private by design and that users choose what to share and can edit or revoke permissions at any time. The company also stated that the health data will not be used to train its models.

The launch follows a recent rival rollout by OpenAI for a dedicated health experience called ChatGPT Health that also links medical records and wellness apps for personalized responses. The move arrives amid scrutiny over AI health outputs after Google was forced to remove some AI summaries that provided inaccurate health information.

In its Acceptable Use Policy, Anthropic notes that a qualified professional must review generated outputs "prior to dissemination or finalization" in high-risk healthcare cases. "Claude is designed to include contextual disclaimers, acknowledge its uncertainty, and direct users to healthcare professionals for personalized guidance."
