- Bitcoin educator Andreas Antonopoulos has announced “no more livestream Q&A or producing any new content” due to debilitating health issues.
- The author of ‘Mastering Bitcoin’ first engaged with the asset when it was worth a few dollars in 2011 and helped onboard countless early adopters.
- In 2017, the community rallied around him, donating over 100 BTC (worth over $1 million at the time) after he was publicly mocked for his lack of wealth.
- Just months before his health announcement, he was awarded the Human Rights Foundation‘s Finney Freedom Prize, pledging to donate half the prize to Creative Commons.
British-Greek educator and author Andreas Antonopoulos announced over the weekend through his Patreon that his public content creation has ended for health reasons. His team stated the decision comes as Antonopoulos suffers from chronic, severe migraines that have resisted treatment.
Consequently, he will no longer host livestream Q&As or produce new subscriber content. However, his extensive library of educational materials, including books and videos, will remain accessible on the platform.
Antonopoulos first learned about Bitcoin in 2011 when its price was negligible. He subsequently devoted his career to advocacy, authoring foundational works like Mastering Bitcoin and coining the popular phrase, “not your keys, not your coins.”
His impact was recognized again recently when the Human Rights Foundation named him the recipient of its Finney Freedom Prize. He said he would donate half of the financial award to Creative Commons.
