The exchange protocol’s newest offering should help people get started with 0x.

This past Friday, November 16, 0x software engineer Leonid Logvinov announced the release of the 0x Launch Kit, a “highly requested” set of tools containing a simple codebase for developers to use as a starting point as they create their own projects, such as an in-game collectible item marketplace or a market for a new community token. 0x asserts that with the kit, developers will be able to launch their relayers in less than a minute.

Relayers are essentially entities that host off-chain orderbooks filled with signed orders from Ethereum addresses. Opposed to exchanges, relayers offer a form of decentralized exchange in that they do not hold assets or execute trades but, rather, relay messages, as the name suggests.

As an open protocol, 0x’s tools and documentation have always been available to allow anybody to build a relayer. However, the project’s launch kit simplifies the process and assists developers who may be new to building within the Ethereum ecosystem. The team relates its kit to WordPress – it helps developers enable simple trade functionality on their Dapps while also allowing folks to build upon the code to create custom solutions.

To get started, individuals simply need to fork the repository, edit the configuration file to determine details such as which network the relayer will run on and which tokens will be hosted on its orderbooks, build, and start the relayer. At this point, the core experience can be used as is, or folks can develop their own user interfaces to communicate with the kit. Developers then choose which hosting service (for example, Amazon Web Services or Heroku) to deploy their relayers on.

The 0x crew specifically mentioned the example of indie game developers using the kit to create secondary markets to sell non-fungible tokens, although, of course, there are numerous possibilities for what individuals can build using this set of tools.

News of the 0x Launch Kit comes almost two months after the release of version two of the protocol, which has brought “further modularity and extensibility” to 0x, allowing developers “to address many new use cases.”
