Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (MUFG) is teaming up with Akamai Technologies to create a payments network based on blockchain, CoinDesk reported. MUFG said the platform, dubbed the Global Open Network, will handle more than 1 million transactions per second. The system is said to be created “by the first half of 2020.” MUFG is no stranger to blockchain: The company was involved with a blockchain test with BNP Paribas and BBVA.

In other news, Boehringer Ingelheim (Canada) plans to test out the IBM blockchain in Canada, CoinDesk reported. The test seeks to tackle the quality issues involving the processes and records of clinical trials, with an eye on decreasing cost and increasing the safety of patients. IBM General Manager of Global Business Services Canada Claude Guay said, according to the outlet, “We’ve been using blockchain in other industries, and we are now investigating how we can use this technology to give Canadian patients the same level of security and trust when it comes to their personal health information.”

On another note, Coinbase reportedly gave a bug bounty of $30,000 for a system flaw that was logged through its vulnerability disclosure program in February, The Next Web reported. A representative from the crypto exchange told the outlet that the flaw was repaired, but did not offer any information regarding the vulnerability. As it stands, the company has four tiers of rewards that range from $200 to $50,000.

Ethereum messaging app Status revamped its crypto wallet, now dubbed the Keycard, CoinDesk reported. The contactless device is said to be compatible with Litecoin, bitcoin and XRP, among other tokens. Status Project Lead Guy-Louis Grau, said per the outlet, “You’ll just need to tap your Keycard on a mobile device to sign transactions. Functionally speaking, it’s really a hardware wallet, but it works with mobile.”
